The book is bilingual, Polish and English; the Polish part presents a volume of texts published by Marina Gržinić and now for the first time presented in Polish. The exhibition represents a significant milestone in the collaborative journey of four artists: Marina Gržinić, Aina Šmid, Tjaša Kancler, and Jovita Pristovšek. The heart of the exhibition lies at a focal point on the 44-year journey of video-film and installation work by Marina Gržinić and Aina Šmid. This showcase not only celebrates their collaborative oeuvre, which began in 1982 and has left a profound artistic and political impact across former Yugoslavia, Slovenia, and beyond, but also introduces a fresh collaborative venture involving Marina Gržinić, Tjaša Kancler, and Jovita Pristovšek, which began in 2022. A notable highlight included the premiere of the documentary film Insurgent Flows in 2023, a compelling 90-minute exploration.
Dissident Histories. Insurgent Futurities bridges the rich history of the past 40 years and the unfolding future of political documentary filmmaking. It encapsulates not only a retrospective reflection but also a forward-looking trajectory, envisioning the continued evolution of political discourse and visual storytelling through film.
