RED SHOES rework and remake for the video camera the modern dance choreography by Sinja Ozbolt.<\/div>\n
The surroundings, the architectural settings of the video dance work, are carefully chosen by Grzinic\/Smid.<\/div>\n
This is a place \u201cwith the past\u201d \u2013 an army barracks complex (Metelkova) in the center of Ljubljana.<\/div>\n
The Metelkova army barracks complex was squatted in the 1990s by Slovene artists, cultural workers, and civil rights and peace movement activists, who fought against the Slovenian state and the city of Ljubljana authorities to secure a space for new social and artistic activities. Metelkova is a sign of the battle for new civil and cultural rights in Slovenia in the 1990s.<\/div>\n

It is practically impossible to distinguish the dancers and their choreographed movements from the various images, contexts, vibrations, places, and sounds. The sound is an integral part of the dance, to the point that the dance is the sound, but also the video image, and the surroundings.<\/div>\n

The video got the award at the TTV Riccione TV-video-theatre festival in Italy, 1995.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
